More Sanmar Newbuilds Cross the Atlantic

Svitzer Americasâ newest vessels Svitzer Monte Cristi and Svitzer Catuan have been delivered by Turkish tug builder Sanmar. The boats, which will be operated in the Dominican Republic, are Ramparts 2400 SX class tugs, designed by Robert Allan Limited exclusively for Sanmar, and are known as the Bogaçay Class of which 30 have now been purchased by customers worldwide. The tugs measure 24.4m in length with a molded beam of 11.25m and an overall draft 5.7m.

Parker Bestobell Marine, a supplier of cryogenic valves and part of Parker, a global leader in motion and control technologies, has secured a nine vessel order, worth $5m, making it the single biggest order that the company to date. The contract is with DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) in South Korea to supply cryogenic globe and the vessels are part of a series of 15 liquid natural gas (LNG) carriers destined for the Yamal gas field in Russian Siberia.

On November 8, 2016, shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO delivered the American Jones Act-qualified ECO Class tanker Constitution to SEA-Vista LLC. The ship was delivered during a signing ceremony at the builderâs shipyard in San Diego. Construction on Constitution began in June 2015, and the vessel was christened and launched on August 27, 2016. Constitution was built for SEA-Vista, a partnership between SEACOR Holdings Inc.

The shipping industry faces a stormy road to recovery, with uneven supply/demand trends set to test the nerve of investors and operators, according to independent research and consultancy firm Maritime Strategies International (MSI). Nakilat has assumed full ship management and operations of Q-Max LNG carrier Mekaines from STASCo (Shell Trading and Shipping Company Ltd.) with effect from November 7, 2016, as part of the planned and phased transition announced on October 19, 2016. With a cargo carrying capacity of 266,476 cubic meters, Mekaines is wholly-owned by Nakilat and chartered by Qatargas. The vessel built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries was delivered in March 2009 and has been in service ever since.
