Wärtsilä is to supply the engines and other propulsion machinery for a new offshore construction vessel being built at the Cosco shipyard in China. The ship owner is Belgian operator Dredging International (DEME). This will be the first vessel of its kind to be fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and in addition to the dual-fuel engines, Wärtsilä will also provide its LNGPac fuel storage and supply system and propulsion systems.

U.S. energy firms are scrambling to finish a slew of pipelines that will unleash rich reserves of shale gas in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio as the nation prepares to become one of the world’s top natural gas exporters. The pipelines are expected to boost output from shale fields in the three states by giving producers access to new domestic and international markets. Those states could supply about a third of all U.S.

Wärtsilä said it has been contracted to supply a comprehensive package of engines and propulsion machinery for a new cutter suction dredger (CSD) vessel slated to become the world's most powerful and first ever to be fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The newbuild, Spartacus, is being built at the Royal IHC yard in the Netherlands on behalf of Belgium based Dredging International (DEME). The order with Wärtsilä, worth around $21 million, was booked in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) has completed a renewal survey maintenance program on the 290-meter LNG carrier Gaselys. Co-owned by NYK Line of Japan and ENGIE (formerly GDF SUEZ), operated by Gazocean and chartered by ENGIE, the 10-year old vessel came into DSBr for a regular periodical docking that included a full schedule of works. When she was launched in 2007 the Gaselys was, along with her sister ship the Provalys, the largest LNG carrier ever built.
