Global Maritime Makes Two Hires in Asia Pacific

Global Maritime, a provider of marine warranty, dynamic positioning and engineering services to the offshore sector, has made two important hires to support its Asia Pacific (APAC) operations. Mei Ling Chan has been appointed as Regional Finance Manager for APAC where she will take responsibility for finance functions and reporting across the region; and Leong Weng Yoon has been named Global Maritime’s new HSEQ Manager for APAC.
Wärtsilä to Replace OSV’s Generator with Batteries

Wärtsilä informs it has signed an agreement with Norway’s Eidesvik Offshore to install a hybrid system with batteries on board of its offshore supply vessel (OSV) Viking Princess. Batteries will reduce the number of generators on board Viking Princess, and the new energy storage solution will improve engine efficiency, generating fuel savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Wärtsilä said. Gondan Delivers Dual Fuel Tug

After completing its sea trials program, DUX, the first dual fuel tug ever built in Europe, was delivered yesterday to its owner, the Norwegian company Østensjø Rederi A/S. This vessel is the first tugboat of a series of three. Designed by the Canadian company Robert Allan Ltd., the new escort tug, with 40.2 meters length and 16 meters beam, will provide tug services to Norwegian state-owned energy company Statoil, at the far-north terminal located at Melkøya under severe weather conditions.

Nor Lines and Rolls-Royce have signed a “Power-by-the-Hour” service agreement for the two vessels Kvitbjørn and Kvitnos. The new service offering harnesses the power of “big data” to monitor, plan and perform maintenance and repairs on all the equipment it has installed on the cargo vessels. Power-by-the-Hour is a completely new service from Rolls-Royce Marine, and the agreement with Nor Lines is the first of its kind.

Oman Shipping Company (OSC) has officially set up a new commercial chartering desk offering its Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCCs) to major traders and charterers covering VLCC routes worldwide. OSC, one of the biggest ship owners in the MENA region, has a diversified and young fleet of 50 vessels. OSC owns 16 VLCCs within the fleet out of which OSC is now commercially managing 15 VLCCs through its subsidiary Oman Charter Company (OCC).

Russia plans to sell part of state shipping firm Sovcomflot next month, hoping to draw in a wide range of small-stake investors rather than a strategic buyer who could threaten Moscow's control of the group, banking and industry sources say.
