Tug Runs Aground - Buzzards Bay
U.S. Coast Guard crews helped a Boston-based tug crew on Nov. 9 after they grounded their vessel near Buzzards Bay, Mass., around 1 p.m. No injuries were reported of the three crewmembers aboard the tug Southern Cross. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a radio call from the tug reporting that the engine room was flooding and could not be controlled. The crew said they planned to beach the vessel to keep it from sinking.

Pathfinder Identifies Sunken Vessels During At-Sea Demonstration
Military Sealift Command (MSC) oceanographic survey ship USNS Pathfinder (T-AGS 60) identified two sunken vessels during a joint, at-sea capabilities demonstration in Ukrainian territorial waters. German coastal submarine U-18 was the first target the oceanographers identified using underwater video capabilities with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The second ship is believed to be RUS Prut, a Russian minelayer that sank during World War I in 1914.
Coast Guard Continues Response to Hurricane Ike
The Coast Guard rescued 95 people as part of post-Hurricane Ike operatikons. In addition, 103 were brought to safety on Friday afternoon by helicopter crews from The Coast Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas Task 1, and the California Air National Guard before the hurricane hit. The Coast Guard is continuing its responses to Hurricane Ike on Sunday. Assessment teams, which were staged inland at the Coast Guard Continuity of Operation (COOP) facility in Katy, have deployed to the field.
BOM: Willard Marine Delivers SAR Boat to Navy
Willard Marine announced the acceptance trials of the 17-Meter Search and Rescue (SAR) boat to the U.S. Navy Office of Foreign Military Sales (FMS). In June, representatives from the U.S. Navy were in , at the Willard Marine facility to take part in the Acceptance Trials which took several days and showcased the full capabilities of the boat. A team from Willard Marine will travel with the Navy later this year to conduct boat familiarization training with the customer. The SAR is a 60 ft.
