Search and Salvage Down Under
The Central Queensland Port Authority is undertaking one of the largest capital improvement projects in Australia. The RG Tanna Wharf Expansion Project involves extending the pier by 350 meters, widening existing berths, building a 1.3 kilometer onshore conveyor, and creating a new jetty approach. The cost of the construction portion alone is $128m. Marine contractor Realfâs Diving and Salvage was hired to survey the area before the dredging operation could begin.
BCGP Delivers Boston Whaler 350 Challenger to Ohio
Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) delivered a 350 Challenger to the Lorain County Sheriffâs Department in Ohio, where it will be used to patrol the border between the U.S. and Canada on Lake Erie. The Sheriffâs Department is part of a 58-agency task force known as the Northern Border Initiative (NBI). This task force is funded through federal security grant funds administered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security.

NATO Warship Frees Crew from Pirates
On 29 January, Dutch warship HNLMS De Ruyter, part of NATO's counter-piracy operation Ocean Shield, freed the crew from merchant vessel New York Star after they had barricaded themselves into a âsafe room,â (also known as a âcitadelâ) when their ship came under attack by pirates. As the pirates climbed on board, the master of the New York Star was able to put out a mayday call, which was picked up by an Australian maritime patrol aircraft (MPA), which was on counter-piracy patrol in the area.
