U.S. Coast Guard Opens Arctic Base of Operations
The Coast Guard opened its seasonal forward operating location in Barrow Monday in preparation for the anticipated increase of maritime activities in the Arctic. FOL Barrow is part of Arctic Shield 2012, which focuses on operations, outreach and an assessment of the Coast Guard's capabilities above the Arctic Circle. The FOL in Barrow consists of two Kodiak-based MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters with supporting air, ground and communications crews.

Patrol Boat Delivered by Damen to Albanian Coast Guard
The Stan patrol boats were ordered by the Albanian Ministry of Defence. Their main purpose is to execute patrol duties and Search and Rescue missions in territorial waters. The project included extensive knowledge transfer and the reconstruction of a naval shipyard. The first ship of the Stan Patrol 4207 project was built in the Netherlands and delivered to the Albanian Coast Guard in August 2008.
SAFE Boat Wins 101-boat USCG Contract
SAFE Boats International (SAFE) contracted to build the U.S. The contract calls for up to 101 boats procured over seven years. The CB-OTH-IV will act as a multi-mission, cutter-launched law enforcement vessel and the Coast Guard will begin taking delivery in early 2013. At 26-feet in length, the CB-OTH-IV is capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots and is based off of the SAFE 250 Center Console. While it seems that half the world is monitoring the oil and gas exploration activities of Royal Dutch Shell (Shell Oil) on the United States outer continental shelf (OCS) in waters of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas off the north coast of Alaska, another historic event is occurring in those same waters: Arctic Shield 2012. At 10:07 on Saturday 14, July 2012 Falmouth Coastguard received the relayed 'Mayday' broadcast from the German registered MSC Flaminia reporting that the crew had abandoned the vessel. Drydocks World Reiterates Offshore Sector Commitments
Drydocks World, announced the completion of maintenance work on Abu Dhabi-UAE based National Drilling Companyâs (NDC) Jack-Up Cantilever type Self Elevating Drilling Platform, Delma, which was built in Brazil in 1983. Drydocks World has repaired over a 100 rigs since operations began and has implemented more projects for the offshore drilling sector in recent years as part of a deliberate strategy to serve this rapidly growing sector. Container Ship 'Rena' Salvage Update
Braemar Howells is using increasingly sophisticated equipment in its Rena clean-up operations. The observation class Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV), used to-date in locating submerged container wreckage, has been replaced by a working class version. While the observation class equipment provided the âeyesâ to confirm sightings, the replacement ROV features a manipulating arm that can hook up and move scrap wreckage.

Silver Ships Delivers Patrol Boats to NC Sheriffs
Silver Ships, Inc. recently delivered two 27â Patrol Boats to the New Hanover and Brunswick County Sheriffâs Departments.
