New Brazilian Warship Departs the U.K.
The latest addition to the Brazilian Navy’s fleet departed the UK in the snow for her new home in Rio de Janeiro where she will strengthen Brazil’s maritime security. Apa is the second of three Amazonas Class Ocean Patrol Vessels being delivered to the Brazilian Navy by BAE Systems. Multiple agencies and Amver ship work together to rescue 10 from the Philippine Sea, 90 miles NE of Palau. The U.S. Coast Guard in coordination with the Republic of Palau Division of Maritime Law Enforcement and the Royal Australian Navy Maritime Surveillance Advisor partnered to provide assistance. Peene-Werft Wolgast Delivers Vessel to Swedish Coast Guard
The coast guard vessel (Kustbevakningen Vessel) KBV 033 was handed over to the Swedish Coast Guard with a reflagging ceremony at dock three of the Peene shipyard in Wolgast. A special day for P+S Werften, currently under insolvency administration: Initially the Swedish Coast Guard placed an order for a total of four newly built KBVs in 2008; but in the context of insolvency proceedings, the Peene shipyard could not fulfill the order completely without a new agreement.

Construction of Finnish Border Patrol Vessel Underway
The keel of the offshore patrol vessel being built for the Finnish Border Guard was laid at STX Finland Oy’s Rauma Shipyard. The event was witnessed by representatives of STX Finland, Finnish Border Guard, classification society and media. Scheduled for delivery in November 2013, the 96 meter long and 17 meter wide vessel uses some of the latest technologies and environmentally friendly innovations in accordance with the Government decision-in-principle on sustainable public procurement.
Mystery Wreckage Sighted Off US Coast
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter located the debris and a male body about 22 east of the entrance to the St. Johns River. A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission aircrew reported the debris, including two large pieces of a vessel; 10 life jackets; flares; and an oil sheen. It is unknown if additional people are in the water or otherwise in distress, but the Coast Guard is responding as though there are.
