U.S. Port Appoints Bob DeAngelis as CFO
The Port of San Diego appoints Robert "Bob" DeAngelis as Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer with immediate effect. DeAngelis will begin his new role immediately, overseeing Financial Services and Accounting as well as the Port's Business and Information Technology Services. Loss of 'USS Thresher' Remembered 50 Years On
Family members & dignatories join in Portsmouth, Maine, to remember the loss on sea trials of the nuclear-powered attack submarine. On April 10, 1963, Thresher began post-overhaul trials following lengthy testing and throughout evaluation of her many new technological features and weapons after her commissioning in August 1961. Russian Presidential Decree Establishes NSR Administration
From an office in downtown Moscow, 15 people will regulate traffic along Russia’s Northern Sea Route. A decree signed this week by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev marks the formal establishment of the new Northern Sea Route administration. The office, situated far from the route, is to be part of the federal Agency of Sea and River Transport, reports the Barents Observer. By mid-May, the new structure is to be fully operational.
Great Lakes 2013 Shipping Preparations Begin
The Coast Guard Cutter 'Mackinaw' breaks ice in Western Lake Superior in preparation for the upcoming shipping season. The Mackinaw (WLBB-30) is the only U.S. heavy ice breaking resource assigned to the Great Lakes and in addition to heavy icebreaking other missions of the crew include servicing buoys, search and rescue, law enforcement, and the ability to deploy an oil skimming system to respond to oil spill situations.
FRC International Launch WBV Courses in Canada
FRC International is running the first program of ‘Back To Back’ Whole Boat Vibration (WBV) courses in Canada this April. The lead for these courses is Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Navy. These courses are part of improving sea safety and are open to all interested parties. The object is to include all organizations operating RHIBs and planing craft. Both venues also enable boat builders, equipment manufacturers and industry to attend.
