Pakistan Shipyard Cuts Keel of Navy Tugboat
Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) say they have cut the keel of a 12-Ton Bollard Pull Pusher Tug being built for the Pakistan Navy at a ceremony attended in the shipyard by officials & dignitaries from Pakistan Navy, Government Authorities and KS&EW.
The tug is 16.89 meter in length overall with a gross tonnage of 63 tons. It is fitted with a robust fendering arrangement for all round tugging operations for submarines ships and crafts.
Managing Director of KS&EW, Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah SI(M) in his welcome address said that the steel cutting of this tug is being performed in advance of the contractual timeline and this project shows complete self sufficiency in construction activities, i.e. no technical assistance is being sought.
He added that presently KS&EW is undertaking construction of 5 shipbuilding projects which includes 17000 Tons Fleet Tanker, two Fast Attack Missile Craft, one 32 tons bollard pull Tug (which is ready for delivery) and twenty two (22) bridge erection boats.
The company says that in general engineering it has re-launched itself in the heavy engineering industry with a focus on sugar, oil and heavy transport sector while the Ship Repair Division is rendering valuable services of docking and repairs.
