Mexican Tall Ship visits New London
The Mexican Navy tall ship ARM Cuauhtémoc visited New London May 2-6, when U.S. Coast Guard Academy cadets met cadets from the Mexican Navy and hosted them for a ride on the T-Boats and a tour of the Academy.
A 270-foot barque built in 1982, the Cuauhtémoc serves as a training ship for the Mexican Navy. The vessel, commanded by Capt. Pedro Mata Cervantes, arrived May 2 at 10 a.m. following a sail training trip that began March 12 in Acapulco Guerrero, Mexico, its homeport. The ARM designation used before the name of the vessel refers to Armada Republica Mexicana. The ship set out on a journey that will include stops in 13 countries, including the U.S., Canada and Europe.
