Langh Tech Provides Scrubber for Chios

Finland-based Langh Tech designs, the provider of scrubbers for SOx removal from exhaust gases and water treatment units for closed loop scrubbers, has successfully delivered a scrubber system to the Chios Navigation 50.000 dwt Medium Range product Tanker, a new-building from Hyundai Mipo Shipyard.

Chios Navigation, a Greek ship-owning company owning nine bulk carrier and three medium range product tanker vessels, has selected during early 2018 Langh Tech Open Loop-Hybrid ready scrubbers for their New-building project in Hyundai Mipo.

The system consists of a U-type multi-inlet 5 flue gas sources Open Loop hybrid ready configuration to serve a Main Engine of 7180 kW MCR power, three auxiliary generating sets and the Auxiliary Boiler, consuming totally only about 130 kW in design operating load.

At the end of April 2019, M/T Doric Courage was delivered successfully from the Shipyard with sea trials confirming the high performance of the Scrubber system and its simplicity.

We favored a provider being fully acceptable by HMD Shipyard, demonstrating efficient project management skills and offering strong after sales support," said Nicholas Kydoniefs, Technical Director of Chios Navigation.

"Langh Tech, as ship owners themselves, demonstrated and proved their understanding of our targets and we eventually received a high-performance system with minimal issues during construction, commissioning and delivery. We believe that we have invested in an efficient hybrid-ready solution with low operating costs’’,  Nicholas added.

"Our system was fully fit to the Scrubber design specification and space configuration of the Shipyard while due to low operating costs it will offer a significantly fast pay-back to the shipowner.
