Raytheon Anschütz Innovations to Debut at SMM
German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz announced the launch of navigation system innovations as well as improvements to existing technologies for this year’s SMM.
The world’s first IMO-certified Integrated Navigation System (INS), Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control, will take the center stage at the Raytheon Anschütz booth. About two years after product launch, more than 100 Synapsis systems have been contracted and more than half of them are already in operation.
Improvements to Synapsis INS
Raytheon Anschütz said Synapsis has now been further developed with regard to network structure and integration capability. A new fan less processor including solid state hard drive technology is introduced for all bridge workstations is introduced to contribute to simplified logistics, better lifetime performance and less cost, the manufacturer claims. The computer together with the new NautoPlex data collector forms the backbone of the new Synapsis NX network infrastructure which sets new standards in simplicity, flexibility and scalability of bridge navigation systems.
Functional improvements affect consistency in data handling, bridge alarm management (BAM) and target management. The new advanced target management associates targets from individual sensors to create new system-level targets, which are centrally evaluated and further processed throughout the network. Target-related alerts are based on system-level targets to offer immediate and clear situational assessment and to simplify acknowledgement from any task related display. This helps the user to identify radar targets and AIS targets more quickly. Raytheon Anschütz said improvements have also been made with central user settings, which allow defining standard settings for certain maneuvering situations such as docking, harbor or open sea. The HMI was further improved.
According to Raytheon Anschütz , the current improvements are most important for the increasing number of ships which require more complex, higher-level integrated systems. Most typically these requirements arise from ships with extended safety requirements such as tankers or passenger ships or ships operating under harshest environmental conditions and within a safety-sensitive surrounding such as Offshore and Platform Supply Vessels. The main purpose of these more integrated navigation systems is to provide navigators with advanced function and simplified, harmonized operation to ensure highest operational safety. Its scalability makes Synapsis suitable for all ship types, from containerships through tankers and offshore vessels to cruise ships or megayachts.
New Anschütz Radar Introduced at SMM
A highlight and a core element of the Raytheon Anschütz exhibit is the launch of the newly developed NautoScan NX radar transceivers, which introduce the next generation of the Raytheon Anschütz Synapsis Radar.
The NautoScan NX radar transceivers are developed and produced in Germany. State-of-the-art network technology replaces analog data transmission through expensive and complex special cables. In the future the radar will be connected to the navigation equipment via an Ethernet-interface. The advantages are that through the digital technology the new radar can provide high-quality raw data and at the same time, applications on the bridge are given great flexibility in processing the radar signals – with all the diverse possibilities of modern network infrastructure.
NautoScan NX has not only been developed to offer customers a high-performance and reliable navigation radar but to significantly reduce the need for maintenance need and service. To achieve this, the radar comes with pedestal which is newly constructed mechanically and electronically, and a completely redesigned electronics package. This includes a maintenance-free gear box as well as innovative functions such as a built-in test, an automated performance monitoring or a sleep mode for the magnetron. With a much improved mean time between failure and less service cost the new radar strongly contributes to lower total cost of ownership.
Synapsis ShipGuard Innovation at SMM
The advanced Synapsis integration capabilities also allow creating new applications such as the innovative Synapsis ShipGuard solution. ShipGuard can be configured and integrated with individual components to provide maritime situational awareness and protection for a variety of vessels.
ShipGuard is a derivative of the Raytheon Anschütz surveillance systems series, which is adapted to the Synapsis system architecture and set up as a task on the multifunctional workstations. Integrating the vessels existing navigation systems such as AIS and radar with a suite of surveillance cameras, ShipGuard is able to offer the crew early detection and identification of approaching contacts, an easy classification and efficient alarm zone monitoring on a real cost-efficient, commercial basis.
Besides use onboard offshore operating vessels – for example to simplify traffic management, improve asset control or increase safety around oil and gas platforms or wind farms – the ShipGuard solution has gained interest from a variety of vessels including mega yachts, survey vessels, cruise ships, LNG vessels and oil tankers.
