Norfolk Dredging Shifts to Deepwater Point Range
Dredging operations have been completed in New Castle Range and all submerged pipeline has been removed, GAC said in a alert. Anchorage No.3 and No.5 are reopened for anchorage purposes.
At this time, Norfolk Dredging is conducting dredging operations at Deepwater Point Range, scheduled to continue through mid-May, 2014.
The Dredge ESSEX is operating in Deepwater Point Range, working from south to north, starting on the east side of the channel in the vicinity of the western point of the Killcohook National Wildlife Refuge.
GAC said mariners are cautioned to remain a safe distance away from the dredge, buoys, cables, pipeline, barges, derricks, wires and related equipment.
Submerged pipeline is placed parallel to the channel on the New Jersey side of the river.
On or about April 9, 2014 a submerged pipeline will be placed across the channel to facilitate dredging the Delaware side of the river. Monitor VHF channel 16 for information on the pipelaying operation.
It is advised that traffic should call the Dredge ESSEX at least 30 minutes prior to passage.
The Dredge ESSEX will monitor VHF channels 13 and 16 and can be contacted by phone at 757-353-0455. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution and operate at minimum steerage speed to reduce wake when transiting the area.
