Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

April 8, 2015

Robert Allan Ltd. announced its election as the Charter Corporate Member of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering (CIMarE) Roll number 0001.

CIMarE national council created the corporate membership class in an effort to further engage corporations, organizations, societies and professional associations in support of the activities of the organization. CIMarE was incorporated by federal charter in 1976 to promote the maritime industry and its associated professions. Over the years, CIMarE has been a medium for communication for maritime industry professionals as they’ve been able to exchange their ideas, new innovations and have been able to connect with others at various social events.

The election of Robert Allan Ltd. as the Charter Corporate Member comes on the eve of the Annual Mari-Tech conference being held in Vancouver BC. Robert Allan Ltd. is a major participant in the 2015 Mari-Tech conference involved with the following events:
  • Robert G. Allan, P. Eng., Executive Chairman of the Board will bring his expertise in escort tug design to a panel discussion on tanker safety. The panelists will each present a different perspective on the subject of proposed and expanded tanker operations on the BC Coast, and then engage in a short debate on the merits of their arguments on both sides of the issue, followed by a question and answer session with the audience. (April 9 at 8:45 a.m.)
  • Mike Philips, P.Eng will present a paper on “Preventing the Spill: Tugs for Tankers.” Modern high-performance escort and rescue tugs have been used with great success worldwide in preventing grounding and collision incidents for all types of shipping, including both tankers and LNG carriers. This presentation will discuss two distinct modes of tug operation: escort and rescue towing. What capabilities does a tug need to successfully escort a tanker which suffered a steering or propulsion failure in a restricted waterway? Many of the scenarios require force generation capabilities well in excess of anything available from the existing BC Tug fleet. This presentation will offer some insight into what the next generation of 'super' tugs will look like. (April 9 at 11:30 a.m.)
  • “An Evening Under the Sea at the Vancouver Aquarium”, the conference’s main social event, sponsored by Robert Allan Ltd. (April 9 at 6:30 p.m.)
  • Robert Allan Ltd. commercial booths No. 55 & 56 in the exhibition hall, including various members of Robert Allan Ltd. management and design team.
