Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Expands Operations

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

October 12, 2018

The issue of expanding the activities of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ACSC) in foreign waters commissioned by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in order to eliminate dependence on a single market, while maintaining the leading positions of the Shipping Company in the Caspian Sea, is in the center of constant attention.

Consistent measures are being taken in this direction. Expanding the activities of the Shipping Company in international waters is of great importance in terms of opening new jobs on a permanent basis, ensuring competitiveness in international cargo transportation, representing and promoting our country abroad.

In this direction, the next step has been made in accordance with the strategic objectives. From now on, one more cargo ship of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company-“Mahmud Rahimov”, will be operated in the Azov-Black-Mediterranean Sea.

The vessel, having carried out loading operations in Turkmenistan, is already heading for Bulgaria. The vessel, having passed the internal waters of Russia along the Volga-Don Canal, will moor today to the Rostov port. After completing the relevant documentation, the vessel will go to the largest port in Bulgaria - Burgas.

The control of the operation of the dry cargo vessel, as well as of other vessels of the Caspian Shipping Company, sailing in international waters, will be carried out by the main office of the Shipping Company in Baku, and the technical services will be the representative office of the Company in Turkey. The crew consists of 16 people.

The vessel "Mahmud Ragimov" with a deadweight of 4,485 tons, a carrying capacity of 4,100 tons, a speed of 11 knots, a length of 117.5 meters and a width of 16.5 meters will further strengthen the position of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company in the international market of maritime freight.

It should be noted that after a long break, the activities of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company in international waters were re-etsablished on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev in 2014 by acquiring the vessels “Uzeir Hajibeyli” and “Natavan”. Thus, by launching of “Mahmud Rahimov”, number of the vessels of the Company sailing in external waters reached 14, and 12 of them are dry cargo vessels and 2 are tankers.
