Stockholm’s Maritime Police Section has recently taken delivery of a high-speed Marell M15 patrol boat, equipped with a fully integrated propulsion system – Volvo Penta’s latest D6 engine, DPI drive and navigation system. The new vessel was handed over on June 11 at Swedish boatbuilder Marell’s headquarters in Östhammar, some 135 kilometers north of Stockholm.Volvo Penta’s latest D6-440 DPI propulsion system is the power behind the new 15-meter fast patrol boat.

Mellquist Tapped as Next President at Volvo Penta
Heléne Mellquist has been appointed as President Volvo Penta and new member of Volvo Group Management. She will replace Björn Ingemanson, who is retiring. Mellquist, born in 1964, currently holds the position as President for the European Division at Volvo Trucks. Her career at the Volvo Group began in 1988 and she has held many senior positions at the company. She has also held the position as CEO at TransAtlantic 2012-2015.

Maryland Pilots Orders Gladding-Hearn Launch
The Association of Maryland Pilots has ordered a new class of pilot boat from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation. Called the Baltimore Class after the pilots’ base of operations at the Port of Baltimore, the vessel’s delivery is scheduled for April 2021. With a length overall of 48.5’, beam of 15.6’, and draft of 4’, the all-aluminum pilot boat features the Ray Hunt Design deep V hull.
