The Guardian reported that six people may have perished after a fishing boat flying the Saint Helena flag sank near the Falkland Island coast.

It said that 14 of the 27 crew believed to be on board had been rescued. The report said that seven other crew members were still missing.

In a press release, the British Overseas Territory said that the fishing vessel Argos Georgie was 200 nautical mile east of Stanley, capital of the Falkland Island, when it went down.

The Government said that the rescued crew was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at Stanley for medical evaluations while search operations for missing persons continued.

The Falkland Islands government, which is located south of the Atlantic Ocean in the South Atlantic Ocean, has not responded to an immediate request for comment. Reporting by Gnaneshwarrajan in Bengaluru, Editing by Neil Fullick
