US Coast Guard ends search for crew members of capsized Alaskan boat
The U.S. Coast Guard announced on Monday that they had suspended their search for five individuals after their commercial fishing vessel capsized in Alaska.
The Coast Guard received an early Sunday mayday call from the crew on the Wind Walker fishing vessel, which was reported to be overturning just south of Couverden Point.
On Sunday, the area where the boat capsized experienced heavy snowfall and winds of up to 60 mph.
In a written statement, Chief Warrantor James Koon, coordinator of Coast Guard's search and rescue missions, expressed his sorrow and sympathy with the family and friends of those we weren't able to locate over the last 24 hours.
In a statement, the Coast Guard said that it searched using boats and helicoptors for almost 24 hours in an area of more than 108 square nautical miles (371 square km).
The Coast Guard announced on Sunday that they had received information that there were five people aboard the boat that capsized.
The Coast Guard reported that seven empty cold-water immersion suit and two strobe light were found in the water, but the vessel or crew had not been located.
