Port of LA Container Volumes Up 8% in May
The Port of Los Angeles has released its May 2014 containerized cargo volumes. In May 2014, overall volumes increased 8.2 percent compared to May 2013. Total cargo for May was 689,141 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). Container imports rose 7.75 percent, from 326,114 TEUs in May 2013 to 351,403 TEUs in May 2014. Exports rose 2.3 percent, from 154,904 TEUs in May 2013 to 158,473 TEUs in May 2014.

Lopolight Names E-LED N.American Distributor
Lopolight, a Denmark-based manufacturer of LED navigation lights, announced the formation of a new partnership with E-LED Lighting, Inc. of Jupiter, Florida. On July 1, 2014 E-LED Lighting, Inc. will become the new North American distributor for Lopolight. Navy Evacuation Exercise Performed in the Netherlands
On Wednesday, May 21 at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) Yard in Vlissingen Oost, the Netherlands, an evacuation test deployment of a Liferaft Systems Australia (LSA) 20m MES and 100-person capacity self-righting liferaft was conducted from the new Royal Netherlands Navy Joint Support Ship, HLNMS Karel Doorman. First MTU Powered Boat Monitored by GPLink
GPLink’s remote monitoring equipment has been installed on hundreds of Cat powered vessels throughout the world. The company has recently announced that its product has received its first integration on a non-Caterpillar power package. Suspected WWII Sea Mine Found off Kiribati
A team of Australian Defense Force (ADF) personnel has headed to the Pacific Island nation of Kiribati to dispose of a suspected World War II sea mine. The object was discovered beneath a sunken vessel that is being salvaged by commercial operators in Betio Lagoon, South Tarawa. Six Royal Australian Navy clearance divers and a support team are flying to the island nation on a Royal Australian Air Force C-130J Hercules aircraft.

Harley Marine Orders Two Tractor Tugs
The construction of two new tractor tugs has begun at Diversified Marine in Portland, Oregon. The twin sister tugs, designed by Robert Allan, LTD, are each 80 feet in length, with approximately 5,200 horsepower and a 65 tons bollard pull. They are expected to be completed in March and June of 2015. Harley Marine Services has chosen to name the tugs the Michelle Sloan and the Lela Franco after two remarkable women that are very important to the company.
