Kappel Propellers for Newbuild Bulk Carriers
Lemissoler Navigation Co. Ltd., the Cyprus-based owner and operator, has selected the MAN Alpha Kappel propeller design for a new series of 8 × 58,500 DWT bulk carriers planned for delivery during 2015 and 2016. The 6.8-meter, slow-running, four-bladed Kappel fixed-pitch propellers will be tailored to the SDARI-designed bulk carriers and a drivetrain powered by an MAN B&W 5S60ME-C engine, economy-rated at 8,050 kW and 89 r/min.

Compact Dredge Monitoring System Released
CT Systems officially released what it is calling the world’s first all in one dredging computer, GeoDredge. GeoDredge houses all necessary components in a single housing. GeoDredge acts as a hardware platform for the Viking software. CT Systems said its goal is for any operator to be able to operate the system without any prior extensive training. With the advent of GeoDredge, it is no longer necessary to install separate components.

DMW Marine Delivers Crane to US Navy
DMW Marine Group has delivered an ABS certified 500 ton meter man rated knuckleboom crane to NASSCO in San Diego for installation on the MLP 3 for the U.S. Navy. China Strikes Down P3 Network
Today, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) in China announced that they have not given their approval to the P3 Network. On March 24, 2014, the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) decided to allow the P3 Network agreement to become effective in the U.S., and on June 3, 2014, the European Commission informed the P3 partners that it had decided not to open an antitrust investigation into P3 and had closed its file.

DNV GL Approves GTT Membrane LNG Bunker Barge
Houston-based GTT North America (GTT NA), U.S. subsidiary of French engineering and technology company GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz SA), has received an Approval in Principle from DNV GL for the design of a 2,200 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge. Cargo Numbers Edge Up in Long Beach
Cargo container numbers edged up 2.7 percent last month at the Port of Long Beach, making for the Southern California seaport’s busiest May since 2007 by reaching nearly 600,000 container units. Terminals handled 599,509 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) overall in May, including 312,439 TEUs of imports, which is a 2.3 percent increase compared to May 2013. Exports were flat with a slight decline of 0.3 percent to 146,702 TEUs. Empty containers rose 7.1 percent to 140,368 TEUs.

USS Ross Arrives in Rota
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) arrived at Naval Station Rota, Spain to begin her forward deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations, June 16. Ross, departed Norfolk, Va., June 3, and is the second of four Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers to be forward deployed to Rota, joining USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) which has been on station since February.
