DNV GL Publishes Regulatory Roadmap for Floaters in the US

McDermott Awarded Megalodon Platform Installation
McDermott International, Inc. announced today that one of its subsidiaries was awarded a contract to provide transportation and installation services to Walter Oil & Gas Corporation for the Megalodon platform destined for South Timbalier Block 311 in the Gulf of Mexico. The project is expected to be included in McDermott’s third quarter 2014 backlog. McDermott will provide all materials and equipment to transport and install the six-pile platform in 391 feet of water, over an existing well site.

Stanford Secures Long Term PSV Charter in Mexico
Stanford Marine announced today from its Dubai headquarters that it has secured a three-year contract for one of its 87-meter Platform Supply Vessels (PSV), Stanford Bateleur, in Mexico. Treasure Hauled from SS Central America Shipwreck
Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. has placed operational reports and inventories of items recovered from the SS Central America shipwreck site on the company's website at shipwreck.net/ssca.php. These items were initially filed under seal in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division. Chief U.S. District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith has allowed the reports to be unsealed and made available to the public.

Kirby Awards ATB Contracts to Bay Shipbuilding
Bay Shipbuilding Company (BSC) of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, a subsidiary of Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG), has been awarded a contract to build two 155,000-barrel capacity barges and two 6,000 HP tugs for Kirby Corporation. The vessels are to be operated as Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) units and will haul petroleum and chemical products domestically. The first ATB unit is scheduled for delivery in the Fall of 2016 and the second unit will be delivered in Summer of 2017.

MOL Coal Carrier to Serve Tohoku Electric Power
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) today announced that the coal carrier Soma Maru, which will serve Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., was delivered at Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation on July 17, 2014. The vessel, which was jointly developed by Sanoyas Shipyard and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with its wide-beam/shallow-draft shape and various safety and energy-saving specifications.

DMC Builds the Smallest Ever Nozzle
Damen Marine Components (DMC), part of Damen Shipyards Group, announced it has smashed its propeller nozzle world record by 33 percent downwards. This downsizing to an inside diameter of 665 millimeters only - from the previous 1,000 mm ‘entry level model’ - marks a new milestone for DMC’s Optima Nozzle series. Already one-third smaller than the previous one meter (1,000mm) Benjamins, the new 65 centimeter nozzles are, however, dwarfed altogether by the biggest models in the Optima series.

HMS Queen Elizabeth Floats for the First Time
The U.K.'s largest ever warship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, has today been floated out of the dock in which she was assembled. In an operation that started earlier this week, the drydock in Rosyth near Edinburgh was flooded for the first time to allow the 65,000-metric-ton aircraft carrier to float. It then took three hours this morning to carefully maneuver HMS Queen Elizabeth out of the dock with just two meters clearance at either side and then berth her alongside a nearby jetty.
