BethShip Sparrows Point Expands Orderbook

BethShip Sparrows Point yard expanded its orderbook through April 1995 with 13 vessels, including ship repair, conversion and new construction.

Maersk Line Ltd. will convert the container/RoRo Adrian Maersk and Albert Maersk for charter to the Military Sealift Command. The $12 million contract involves the installation of two new cranes, climate control for cargo spaces, reflagging to the U.S. flag, reclassing to ABS and general repairs and refurbishment. BethShip signed a letter of intent to build a 450-TEU container barge for Hale Intermodal Transport Co. of Baltimore.

The $1.7-million contract is for a barge similar to those built by BethShip for the company in 1986. Recent repairs include the 10,756- gt container vessel Patricia Rickmers; the 12,997-gt general cargo vessel Frederick Lykes; the 1,545-gt container vessel Bermuda Islander; and t h e 8,376-gtSea Wind. BethShip recently completed work on the Star Georgia (Texaco); the coal-fired bulker Energy Independence (Keystone), th ^Melbourne Star (Blue Star), the Fantasy (Carnival Cruise Lines) and the Monarch of the Seas (RCCL).
