Fuel Removed from Grounded Fishing Vessel
The U.S. Navy, in partnership with other federal and local agencies, removed approximately 540 gallons of the remaining diesel fuel from the grounded Japanese commercial fishing vessel Daiki Maru 7 in outer Apra Harbor Feb. 18. On Feb. 16, about 50 gallons of fuel was removed and an additional 540 gallons was removed Feb. 18. The diesel fuel was pumped into containers on shore and then staged in an environmentally safe containment zone for disposal.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported that it rescued a 55-year-old man Saturday, who was suffering from chest pains while out on a charter boat approximately 22 miles northeast of Port Mansfield, Texas. The Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) has signed a contract with Miko Marine AS to become the first national agency to purchase the ShipArrestor system. The two packages ordered are due for delivery this summer and feature sea anchors that can be deployed on ships by helicopter. BOS Completes Short Notice Call Out Contract
Bibby Offshore Singapore (BOS) said it has successfully completed a call out contract with PTT Exploration & Production Co Ltd (PTTEP). The project involved a short notice mobilization, and saw the BOS-operated DP2 ROV Support Vessel, the Bibby Spring perform subsea inspection services to PTTEP’s Bongkot Field assets in the Gulf of Thailand. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) held a naming ceremony for the world’s first newbuilding LNG floating storage regasification unit (LNG FSRU), ordered from Höegh LNG in June 2011. The 170,000 cbm LNG FSRU, measuring 294 meters in length, 46 meters in width and 26 meters in depth with the storage capacity of 70,000 metric tons of chilled natural gas, will be chartered to Lithuania’s Klaipedos Nafta under a long-term contract.
