Strong Vessel Demand Lifts Baltic Dry Index to Second Weekly Gain
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index rose on Friday and posted a second consecutive weekly gain on the back of stronger demand across vessel segments.The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, rose to an over three-weeks high as it added 62 points, or 3.5%, to 1,820. It was up 10.8% this week.The capesize index added 99 points, or 3.7%, to 2,763.
Seaspan Takes Delivery of New 15,500 TEU Vessel
Seaspan Corporation has taken delivery of Maersk Cleveland, the second of six new SAVER 15,500 TEU series vessels.The ship was delivered from China's Jiangnan Shipyard on November 15.Seaspan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Corp., announced contracts to build the six ships in March 2021 as part of a raft of new shipbuilding orders.Upon completion, each vessel will enter long-term charters with global liner customers.The series' first vessel, Maersk Charleston, was delivered earlier this year.

New York State will issue a new offshore wind solicitation on Nov. 30 with bids due in January 2024, the state government said, in a move that should support the troubled industry. European energy companies Orsted, Equinor, and BP have taken a combined $5 billion of writedowns on U.S. offshore wind projects that are not even completed, in part because their existing power sales contracts would not cover the cost of building and financing the projects.
