U.S. dredging and marine construction industry trade group the Dredging Contractors of America (DCA) said Frederick Paup has been elected as the organization's next president.Paup, who currently serves as chairman of the board at Manson Construction, join DCA's leadership team with Stephen Tobin, newly elected senior vice president. Tobin is chief operating officer at Cashman Dredging.

LR Awards AIP for Value Maritime’s CCS System
Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted approval in principle (AIP) for Value Maritime’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) system. The Filtree System – a prefabricated gas cleaning system that filters sulphur and 99% of particulate matter – will be fitted on two Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) MR tankers, significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.The CCS system includes a carbon capture module that captures the CO2 in a special chemical.

Great Lakes Limestone Trade Up 5.3% in August
Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.8 million tons in August, an increase of 5.3% from 2021, according to trade group the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA). Limestone cargos were below the month’s 5-year average by 1.6%.Loadings from U.S. quarries totaled 3.1 million tons, an increase of 3% compared to a year ago, LCA said.
