Thyssenkrupp to Invest $279 mln at Shipbuilding Division
Thyssenkrupp plans to invest 250 million euros ($279 million) at its unit that builds submarines and warships, the German industrial conglomerate said on Monday.The investment at Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) will be made by 2023, the group said, pointing to good order intake at the moment. TKMS will also hire 500 new employees by the end of next year, it said."Our ambition is to be Europe's most modern naval company.
Baltic Index at 4-month Low on Weak Demand
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships ferrying dry bulk commodities, fell to a four-month low on Monday, weighed down by easing rates across vessel segments.The Baltic index, which reflects rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels, fell 22 points, or 1.3%, to 1,675, its lowest since July 3.The capesize index dropped 4 points, or 0.1% to 2,946 points, its lowest in more than a week.
