Torqeedo has announced strategic agreements to integrate Sentinel Boat Monitors and WhisperPower smart power generation systems into its electric boat propulsion product offerings. The announcements were made in a press conference at the Dusseldorf International Boat Show Jan. 23. The Sentinel Boat Monitors are now fully integrated with Torqeedo’s Cruise, Travel and Ultralight electric propulsion systems.

Rolls-Royce to Equip Baydelta’s New Hybrid Tug
Rolls-Royce said it will supply a hybrid propulsion arrangement for installation to a multipurpose tractor tug being built for Baydelta Maritime LLC at the Nichols Brothers Boat Builders shipyard in Washington State, U.S. The 100-foot long tug is due for delivery in the first quarter of 2019, and will feature the same ship assist and tanker escort capabilities of existing Delta Class harbor tugs but with improved towing performance.
Acta Marine Orders Second CSV at Ulstein Verft
The Netherlands based Acta Marine, which has a newbuild walk to work construction support vessel (CSV) nearing completion at Ulstein Verft in Norway, has ordered a second CSV at the yard. The second vessel is scheduled for delivery Q2 2019, and is of the SX195 design, the same as the first vessel, Acta Auriga, which will soon go to sea trials before embarking on a two-year charter for operations at BARD Offshore 1 wind farm Germany.

Baltic Index Posts First Gain in Seven Sessions
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose for the first time in seven sessions on Tuesday, following a rebound in capesize rates. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, edged up 13 points, or 1.2 percent, to 1,095 points. The capesize index snapped its five-session losing streak and climbed 86 points, or 6 percent, to 1,519 points.

Revised G8 Certificate for Alfa Laval PureBallast 3
PureBallast 3, the third generation ballast water treatment technology from Swedish manufacturer Alfa Laval, is the first solution to be type approved according to the revised IMO G8 testing requirements. DNV GL, acting on behalf of the Norwegian Maritime Authority, issued an updated type approval certificate on February 2, making Alfa Laval the first supplier compliant with the revised G8 demands. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has banned all foreign scientific research off the country's Pacific coast and told the navy to chase away unauthorised vessels, despite earlier allowing Chinese oceanographers to operate there.
