Seaspan Shipyards Opens New Vancouver Office
Seaspan Shipyards officially opened its new 7,800 square meter office at the foot of Pemberton Avenue on the south western spit of the property near Seaspanâs current offices in North Vancouver, B.C. The new building, which provides space for approximately 390 employees, will serve primarily as a collaborative space for Vancouver Shipyards to execute preproduction work as a strategic partner to the Government of Canada under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

Baltic Index Gains On Stronger Capesize Demand
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose over two percent on Tuesday to mark its biggest one-day percentage gain in about seven weeks, helped by stronger capesize rates. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 22 points, or 2.31 percent, at 974 points. This was the biggest one-day percentage gain for the index since Feb. 21.
Simwave Simulator Center Opens in April
With a range of dignitaries in attendance, Simwave will officially open its 5,000-square-meter maritime training center in Barendrecht on April 19. The three hundred guests will take a look behind the scenes at the new location, which houses more than 50 simulators. The center has already been in use for some time now. The 'site acceptance test' was successfully completed on January 29th, in collaboration with the supplier of the simulators, the Norwegian company Kongsberg Digital.
Palfinger to Replace Six Large Lifeboat Stations
Palfinger Marine has been chosen as the supplier for the replacement of six large lifeboat stations for the accommodation vessel Edda Fides. âWe have been working closely with Edda Accoommodation on this project and found the best technical solution for their needs. HMM to Order 20 Mega Containerships
South Koreaâs largest shipping line Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) announced it will order 20 new containerships, including eight 14,000 TEU vessels and 12 ships above 20,000 TEU.
