New Rule Creates Flexibilities for NVOCC Agreements
A Final Rule published today by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) offering deregulatory flexibilities for non-vessel-operating common carrier (NVOCC) negotiated rate arrangements (NRAs) and NVOCC service arrangements (NSAs) will go into force on August 22, 2018.The key changes to NRAs allow them to be amended at any time; allow the inclusion of non-rate economic terms; and, allow an NVOCC to provide for shipperâs acceptance of the NRA by booking a shipment.
US-flag Great Lakes Cargo Shipping Steadies
U.S.-flag Great Lakes freighters (lakers) moved 9.7 million tons of cargo in June, a near mirror image of a year ago but 3.5 percent below the monthâs five-year average, the Lake Carriersâ Association reported.Iron ore cargos for steel production totaled 4.6 million tons, a decrease of 6.9 percent, while coal loads totaled 1.4 million tons, a decrease of 13.7 percent.Offsetting those decreases was a 21 percent surge in limestone cargos.
