A cruise ship came to the aid of a small fishing vessel that was adrift after running out of fuel about 25 nautical miles from Barbados.At approximately 10 p.m. on August 29, Carnival Fascination responded to a distress signal from two fishermen while on a seven-day Caribbean cruise that departed San Juan on August 26.The two Barbadian men, ages 43 and 51, were rescued by the cruise ship and taken on board where they received medical assistance, a hot meal and accommodations.

Great Lakes Iron Ore Trade Rises in August
Shipments of iron ore on the Great Lakes totaled 6.4 million tons in August, an increase of 1.8 percent compared to a year ago, the Lake Carriers’ Association reported. Shipments outperformed the month’s five-year average by nearly 13 percent.Year-to-date the iron ore trade stands at 33 million tons, a decrease of 2.4 percent compared to the same point in 2017. The gap has been steadily decreasing over the course of the shipping season.
