Novacavi Cables for Seascape
Italy-based cable manufacturer Novacavi reports an additional supply of special fishing tow cables for long-term customer Seascape BV. Already tested with full satisfaction, these fit for purpose cables are used onboard special equipped Dutch vessels for flat fish fishing with electric pulse system in North Sea. Cables have to be continuously pulled backward and forward over a pulley connecting winch, gear and nets on the same place for a 24 hours service six days per week.
Sulzer Acquires License for Total’s Wash Tank Technology
Sulzer’s Chemtech division has been granted a license covering the Total-patented Wash Tank Technology for Oil Processing. The main purpose of this technology is to enhance the removal of water, salt and contaminants from oil and emulsions, by a controlled distribution of the feed into the bottom of a hull tank of an FPSO/FSO/FPU which transforms the water-in-oil dispersion into an oil-in-water one where high efficiency phase separation takes place more easily.

Thun Tankers Orders another Newbuild
Thun Tankers said it has declared an option for a fifth tanker to be added to the previously contracted four 17,500 dwt IMO II product/chemical tankers on order at Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd in China. The sister ships are due for delivery between April 2019 and January 2020 and will be commercially managed by Furetank, responsible for the intermediate segment within the Gothia Tanker Alliance.
Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Awards Contract to MELCAL
MELCAL said it has received a new contract from Arctech Helsinki Shipyard for the design and production of two ATEX Zone 1, IIB T3 cranes to be installed onboard an icebreaking arctic tanker. The hose handling cranes will feature heated cabins and are designed to handle both cargo hoses and bunker fuel hoses, as well as provisions and engine spares. In man-riding mode, the cranes are also suitable for safe lifting of personnel.

Baltic Index Posts Best Day in Three Weeks
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates of ships carrying dry bulk commodities, posted its best day in nearly three weeks on Tuesday, helped by higher rates for all vessel types. The index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, ended up 28 points at 1,215. The 2.36 percent rise was its biggest one-day gain since Aug. 17. The capesize index gained 70 points, or 3.12 percent, to 2,313 points.
