Great Lakes Limestone Trade Climbs in October

Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.65 million tons in October, an increase of 10.6 percent compared to a year ago, according to the Lake Carriers' Association (LCA). October’s loadings were also 7.5 percent ahead of the month’s five-year average. Loadings from U.S. quarries totaled 3 million tons, an increase of 11.1 percent compared to a year ago, while shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 665,000 tons, an increase of 8.4 percent over a year ago, LCA said.
Rolls-Royce Extends Naval Services in the Gulf

Rolls-Royce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to provide naval shipbuilding, repair and refit activities across the Gulf region. The MoU is for a definitive agreement for the provision of services, with the objective of becoming a preferred service partner to each other. The agreement will include fixed service rates for onsite service attendance and turnkey repair projects in the Rolls-Royce Dubai workshop.

Damen Contracts Taylor Bros for Icebreaker Barges

Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) has selected Taylor Bros of Tasmania to supply two high powered Antarctic landing barges for Australia’s new icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina. Damen is building the vessel at its yard, Damen Shipyards Galati, in Romania for the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). The vessel will be operated by DMS Maritime, a wholly owned subsidiary of Serco, and is an integral part of the AAD’s research program in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
Shell Marine Launches New Cylinder Oil

Shell Marine has launched a new two-stroke engine cylinder oil, Shell Alexia 140, now available from the ports of Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Antwerp, Tanjung Pelepas, Busan and Salalah. The launch follows receipt of a No Objection Letter (NOL) for commercial use of Shell Alexia 140 from MAN Diesel & Turbo and coincides with Shell Alexia 140’s acceptance into full scale operations by two major customers.
