President Donald Trump will use fast-growing supplies of U.S. natural gas as a political tool when he meets in Warsaw on Thursday with leaders of a dozen countries that are captive to Russia for their energy needs. In recent years, Moscow has cut off gas shipments during pricing disputes with neighboring countries in winter months. Exports from the United States would help reduce their dependence on Russia.

Following an extensive test program in the presence of eight classification societies, the latest development in Winterthur Gas & Diesel’s Generation X low-speed diesel engine range, the X52, completed both its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Type Approval Test (TAT). The newly certified engine is the five-cylinder version of the 52 cm bore X52 diesel from Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD), and completion of the important TAT and FAT signals that the X52 is ready for commercial applications.

Dan-Bunkering (America) Inc. has announced the promotion of Jim Jensen to the position of managing director as of July 1, 2017. Jensen initially started with Dan-Bunkering as a bunker trader at its Copenhagen office in 2008 and relocated to Houston in 2012 at the same time as the opening of the group’s first American set-up, where he advanced to commercial director. Prior to joining the Dan-Bunkering Group, Jensen was employed by a large oil company in Denmark.
Aqualiner Orders Four Damen Waterbus Vessels

Recently, Aqualiner signed a contract with Damen Shipyards for four Damen Waterbus 2407 vessels. The waterbuses will provide public transport services in the Belgian city of Antwerp, as part of a wider transportation program also including land-based public transport services and road improvement schemes. This is the first order for the new Waterbus 2407. Although new, the Waterbus 2407 is based on proven solutions developed by Damen’s in-house R&D team.

Rolls-Royce, The Norwegian University of Technology Science (NTNU), research organization SINTEF Ocean and classification society DNV GL have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of creating an open source digital platform for use in the development of new ships. The platform will allow the creation of so called “digital twins”. A digital twin is a digital copy of a real ship, including its systems, that synthesizes the information available about the ship in a digital world.
