Baltic Index Slips as Capesize Rates Fall

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, slipped on Thursday as capesize rates fell for the second straight day. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, was down 10 points, or 1.16 percent, at 855 points. The capesize index lost 85 points, or 6.24 percent, at 1,277 points.
Inmarsat Enhances Installation Support Network

Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT.L) has responded to demand for its ground-breaking Fleet Xpress service by boosting from six to 33 the number of ports where a complete service installation with a flat fee is available. Fleet Xpress installation will now be available at 12 Asia Pacific ports, 11 in the Europe Middle-East and Africa region, and 10 ports in the Americas, with all work undertaken by Inmarsat-certified engineers.
Port of Charleston Cleared after Bomb Scare

A container terminal at the Port of Charleston has resumed normal operations after being cleared of a potential bomb threat aboard a containership. At approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday authorities were informed of a potential threat in a container aboard the vessel Maersk Memphis moored at Charleston's Wando terminal, forcing a temporary evacuation of the terminal while federal, state and local bomb detection units investigated the threat.
LR Verifies BP FPSO Glen Lyon

The Glen Lyon floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, BP’s newest North Sea asset, was awarded full-term classification certificates for service in the Schiehallion and Loyal fields, 175 km west of Shetland. Conditions west of Shetland are among the most severe in the UK and Glen Lyon must be capable of operating in extreme weather. Classification means the Glen Lyon FPSO has been verified for operation to the highest levels of safety and performance by LR.
