DCNS to Build Next French Naval Frigates
DCNS said it has been awarded a contract from the French Defense Ministry for the development and construction of five intermediate-size frigates (FTIs) intended for the French Navy. DCNS will propose a French version of its new BELH@RRA frigate. The first of the five frigates from this French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA)-managed program should be delivered in 2023 with an entry into active service in 2025.

A 5.5 year bareboat charter agreement between Polarcus Limited Norwegian subsidiary Polarcus Amani AS and SCF GEO AS (Sovcomflot) has been signed, and the vessel delivered to Sovcomflot in Bergen. Ellicott said it has completed the refurbishment of the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD) 12” (300 mm) cutter dredge Commodore. After extensive flood damage, GLDD hired Ellicott to refurbish and modernize the Commodore, a non-Ellicott dredge, including hydraulics, electric controls and the booster pump.

Baltic Index Falls to Weakest Since Mid-December
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index marked its biggest percentage decline since mid-December on Friday as rates for larger vessels dipped due to limited activity. The Baltic index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down 3.86 percent. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, was down 48 points at 1,195, its weakest since March 22.
St. Johns Building Landing Craft Series
Palatka, Fla. shipbuilder St. Johns Ship Building (SJSB) said it is currently constructing the first of three new vessels in a series of 190 foot landing crafts for a Caribbean group. This vessel will be powered by twin 700 HP Cummings QSK19 with Schottel rudder propellers. The vessel will also include a 22 inch electric Westmar bow thruster, a hydraulic bow ramp and two 99 KW John Deer generators. This landing craft features open deck with 6400 square feet of cargo space.
