US Warship Challenges China's Claims in South China Sea
A U.S. navy destroyer sailed near islands claimed by China in the South China Sea on Friday, drawing a warning from Chinese warships to leave the area. The U.S. action was the latest attempt to counter what Washington sees as Beijing's efforts to limit freedom of navigation in the strategic waters, U.S. officials said. The Chinese Defense Ministry called the move "illegal" and "provocative," saying that two Chinese warships had warned the U.S. destroyer to leave.
Edison Chouest to Build 13 Damen Tugs
Marine transportation provider and the United States’ largest operator of OSVs, Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO), has teamed up with Damen to build 13 heavy duty mooring assistance and escort tugs. The vessels will be built in the U.S. using ECO’s network of five shipyards with support from Damen under its Technical Cooperation program. The new tugs will be deployed on two major maritime projects for which ECO has recently won contracts.

Shipbuilder Ferus Smit has launched new build M.V. Arklow Cape (Nb. 425) is the second vessel in a series of 10 that will be delivered to Irish owner Arklow Shipping. With a maximized hold volume of 220,000 cft and a carrying capacity over 5,000 deadweight tons, the ship falls under the 3,000 gross tons limit. Arklow Cape has one single hold and an 1A iceclass notation. It is propelled by a 1,740 kW MaK engine with a single ducted propeller.
