The Port of Los Angeles handled 704,398 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in January 2016, an increase of 33 percent compared to January 2015, making for the busiest January in the portās 109-year history. "Record January volumes is a very encouraging way to start 2016, particularly after the slow start that West Coast ports experienced last year," said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. 42 People Rescued after Abandoning Ship off Hawaii
Forty-two people are safe after abandoning ship approximately 1,800 miles south of the Hawaiian Islands, Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. Crewmembers successfully dewatered fishing vessel American Eagle using equipment dropped by an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Barbers Point. Thirty crewmembers are currently aboard the fishing vessel cleaning and assessing damage after a fire broke out Wednesday.

Offshore Ship Designers (OSD-IMT) has signed a new contract to design an IMT2001 Scientific Research Vessel for the Taiwanese Ocean Research Institute (TORI). Sea IT, Veritas Tankers Ink Long-term Software Deal
Sea IT has entered a long term ICT agreement with Veritas Tankers. The agreement comprises installation of BlueCORE Generation 4, an ICT platform specifically developed for the marine industry, and BlueCONNECT, a virtualized software which acts as mail server and carrier controller. Veritas Tankers will upgrade and have the installations made on all its vessels: Astina, Astral and Astoria. Sea IT will support Veritas Tankers during a three-year period though the Fixed BlueCORE ICT agreement.
