Canada Commits $51.9 Mln to Ferry Services
The Canadian Government has committed $51.9 million to support Atlantic Canada ferry services, announced Canadaâs Transport Minister Marc Garneau. The funding, announced as part of Budget 2016, will support operations, maintain and repair ferry assets and dispose of the MV Princess of Acadia, which was taken out of service in July 2015 and replaced by the MV Fundy Rose. The U.S. military on Thursday christened an experimental self-driving warship designed to hunt for enemy submarines, a major advance in robotic warfare at the core of America's strategy to counter Chinese and Russian naval investments. The 132-foot-long (40-metre-long) unarmed prototype, dubbed Sea Hunter, is the naval equivalent of Google's self-driving car, designed to cruise on the ocean's surface for two or three months at a time - without a crew or anyone controlling it remotely.

Nauta Bags Two Fishing Vessel Orders
Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Poland has signed two contracts in recent days for building partially outfitted fishing trawlers for its Danish client Karstensens Skibsvaerft AS. Within the first order Nauta will produce a partly outfitted vessel with length 69.9 meters and beam 14.2 meters. The B â 436 unit will be ready to hand over in March m2017. This vessel will be similar to the other seiners â Kvannoy and Beinur â which Nauta has built for Karstensens Skibsvaerft AS.

Chronopost Inks $2.8 Mln Deal with Reftrade
Reftrade has secured a $2.8 million contract with international shipping and delivery company Chronopost International, to install refrigerated cold rooms on multiple platforms and distribution hubs throughout France. Reftradeâs French division, market leaders in lease of refrigerated containers and temperature controlled units, secured the 60 month contract in Q1 of 2015 on the back of Chronopost launching its Chronofresh line.

1776 - The Continental brig Lexington, commanded by John Barry, captures the British tender Edward near the Virginia Capes after a fierce fight that takes nearly an hour. 1944 - USS Saufley (DD 465) sinks the Japanese submarine I 2, west-northwest of New Hanover, while USS Champlin (DD 601) is damaged after intentionally ramming German submarine U-856 380 miles off Nova Scotia, Canada. Champlin then teams with USS Huse (DE 145) to sink U-856.
