Commissioner William P. Doyle of the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission today voted in favor of requesting additional information from The Ocean Alliance parties. The Request for Additional Information (RFAI) effectively stops the clock on the agreement until such time as the filing parties answer the questions proposed in the RFAI. Once those questions are answered and filed with the Commission, a new 45-day clock commences.
26 Hours of Information Recovered from El Faro's VDR
A group led by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has gathered information from the recovered voyage data recorder (VDR) of sunken cargo ship El Faro to develop a detailed transcript of the sounds and discernible words captured on the shipâs bridge before sinking during Hurricane Joaquin in October 2015. In all about 26 hours of information was recovered from the VDR, including bridge audio, weather data and navigational data.

Royal IHC Upgrades TSHD Pump for Van Oord
Royal IHC informs it has completed the upgrade of the underwater pump and jet water system on trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) VOLVOX TERRANOVA for Van Oord. The renovation involved a complete engineering package, including a plan of repairs for the shipâs hull and modifications to accommodate a jet pump unit and the frequency drive of the new submerged dredge pump unit. The delivery of a 1,700kW jet pump unit and the modification of the complete suction tube was completed on schedule.

ACE Winches Bags Order from Vard
Deck machinery specialist ACE Winches said it has been awarded a spooling contract with Vard Group AS for Norwayâs largest construction vessel. The scope of work includes the spooling of two 3,500 meter ROV umbilicals, the spooling of a crane boom wire and aux wire, including 3,900 meters of 135mm wire on to the vesselâs crane. The largest wire on this project weighs 360te, ACE Winches had to build a new upgraded spooling winch to accommodate the weight.
