CRMG Cranes Arrive in Mersey for Liverpool2
The first six cantilever rail-mounted gantry (CRMG) cranes arrived in the River Mersey on Sunday, May 1 ready for installing and commissioning at the Liverpool2 deep-water container terminal. Produced by leading Chinese manufacturer ZPMC, which also supplied the five ship-to-shore cranes already on site, these six are the first of 12 required for phase 1 of the terminal. Ultimately the site will have eight STS and 22 CRMG cranes as part of a £100 million investment.

Ferry Drydocking Completed on 2-day Turnaround
Great Lakes Shipyard hauled out the Kelleys Island Ferry Kayla Marie on April 18 for its USCG five-year inspection survey. US Coast Guard to Unveil Historic Lifeboat
A ceremony unveiling a historic lifeboat as a new static display in Chatham, Mass. is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at U.S. Coast Guard Station Chatham. The new static display commemorates the first production 44-foot Motor Lifeboat purchased by the Coast Guard and commissioned in Chatham in 1963. Previously, this small boat was used by crews at Station Chatham from 1963-1971, and then again from 2002-2009.

Port of London Bridge Simulator Upgraded
The Port of London Authority (PLA) has invested £250,000 to upgrade its ship’s bridge simulator, adding a full tug bridge simulator in a move that is set to enable a boost in port trade and helps terminals verify their expansion plans. The Thames is the U.K.’s busiest waterway, handling more than 45 million metric tons of cargo a year. For over a decade the bridge simulator has been an essential tool for training the PLA pilots who guide ships to and from their berths on the Thames.
