Bourbon Puts Gas Plans on Hold
Bourbon’s plan to diversify into the gas carrier market has run into financial obstacles. The company said in a statement that its board of directors acknowledged that the financing required for the acquisition of Jaccar Holdings’ gas activities would not be obtained within the originally stated timeframe. Consequently, the board has removed the resolution from the agenda of the annual shareholders meeting scheduled for May 26.
IMS Launches Tankering and Plant Service Company
Inland Marine Service, Inc. (IMS) has partnered with Shawn Hantz of Third Coast Tankering, LLC to launch a new tankering and plant service division called Inland Marine Tankering, LLC (IMT), announced IMS president, Dave Hammond. Containership Fleet Nearing 20 Mln TEUs
The container shipping fleet is nearing the 20 million TEU mark, a barrier that BIMCO expects will be broken through shortly. It is expected that 2016 will see the lowest fleet growth rate on record (3.4 percent projected), but with an estimated net addition of 0.68 million TEU of capacity for the full year, the milestone could be reached in June, BIMCO said. Over the last decade, the fleet size in TEU increased by 240 percent and reached 19.7 million TEU at the end of 2015.
Boating Fatalities Low in 2015 -USCG
The U.S. Coast Guard released its 2015 Recreational Boating Statistics report Tuesday, revealing that boating fatalities nationwide that year totaled 626, the third-lowest number of yearly boating fatalities on record. From 2014 to 2015, injuries decreased from 2,678 to 2,613, a 2.4 percent decrease; deaths increased from 610 to 626, a 2.6 percent increase; and the total number of accidents increased from 4,064 to 4,158, a 2.3 percent increase.
