Retailers Call on Union and Ports for Long-Term Stability

BV Classes Mega Asphalt Carrier

Classification society Bureau Veritas is classing the 37,000 dwt asphalt carrier Asphalt Splendor, recently delivered to U.S.-based Sargeant Marine. The vessel was built at Avic Dingheng, China and is one of a series of two designed by Chinese design institute SDARI in cooperation with Sargeant. The hot asphalt can be carried liquid at temperatures up to 170 deg C in sixteen independent tanks with a total capacity of 35,666 cu m.
Jensen to Design McAllister’s New Escort Tugs

Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, was selected to provide detailed design services including stability, structure and systems design for two, 100-foot long, 40-foot wide, escort tugs for McAllister Towing. The 12-knot, 6,770-horsepower tugs will be constructed at Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., in Bayou LaBatre, Ala., and are scheduled for delivery in 2017. The Brian A.

Scot Tanker Opts for MarineLine Coatings

Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC) has signed a contract with Scot Tanker, based in Istanbul, Turkey, for up to eight chemical tanker retrofits using the patented MarineLine polymer cargo tank coating system. These eight chemical ships became available on the market and were purchased by Scot Tanker to meet growing demand from its customers. The ships are each approximately 8,000dwt, with 14 cargo tanks and two slop tanks each.
