New Boat Delivered to Tampa Bay Pilots
The Tampa Bay pilot association has taken delivery of its second Chesapeake Class launch and the first in a new generation of Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding’s mid-size pilot boats, the boat builder announced today. Dredges Work to Restore National Wildlife Refuge
Dredges are currently being used in a large tidal marsh restoration project at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware, one of the largest ever marsh restoration projects in the eastern U.S. Using two Two Ellicott 460SL dredges, the project aims to restore a highly damaged tidal marsh/barrier beach ecosystem covering about 4,000 acres within the former freshwater impoundment system on the refuge.
Thordon’s COMPAC for US’ Largest Containerships
Thordon Bearings has signed a contract to supply COMPAC seawater-lubricated propeller shaft bearing solutions to two Jones Act containerships under construction at the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Inc. (APSI) for Matson Navigation Company, Inc. The order represents the first large containership reference for the manufacturer and the largest commercial ship propeller shafts to be fitted with COMPAC bearings, Thordon noted.

New Research Vessel for Virginia Institute of Marine Science
JMS Naval Architects will complete the Contract Design Package next month of a 93-foot research vessel for Virginia Institute of Marine Science to replace its current research vessel, R/V Bay Eagle. Panama Canal Reports Record Tonnage
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced a new tonnage record, welcoming 340.8 million Panama Canal tons (PC/UMS) through the canal for the 2015 fiscal year – a 4.3 percent increase year-on-year. This year's record surpasses the previous record of 333.7 million PC/UMS tons set in FY2012, ACP said. During the fiscal year, which ran from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015, containerships registering the highest total tonnage, followed by dry bulk, liquid bulk and car carriers.
