Towing Vessel Sinks off Oahu
A 95-foot towing vessel, Nalani, sank approximately two and half miles west of Barbers Point Harbor, Oahu, Thursday, the U.S. (USCG) Coast Guard reported. The 11 people on board Nalani were rescued safely. The pilot aboard the sinking towing vessel placed a call at 3:13 p.m. via VHF Channel 16, alerting USCG watchstanders at the Honolulu command center that the vessel was taking on water and was in danger of sinking.

Great Lakes Coal Falls Short in 2014
Despite a nearly 1-million ton increase in coal shipments on the Great Lakes in December, the surge was not enough to enable the trade to outperform 2013, the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) said, reporting that shipments for the year totaled 24.5 million tons, a slight decrease compared to 2013. The December surge was possible because heavy ice did not form on the Lakes until January of this year.

Xunlong Shenzhen Orders Dutch-designed Ferry
CoCo Yachts B.V. Xunlong Shenzhen Ferry Company has ordered a Coastal Cruiser 300 ferry from CoCo Yachts, a Dutch design company specializing in the design of aluminum catamarans. The ferry’s hull and superstructure, which the designer said has been optimized for high speeds in combination with good sea keeping performance, will be made of marine grade aluminum. The vessel’s interior will be made of lightweight materials, and luxuriously outfitted, CoCo Yachts said.

Harvey Gulf has signed a framework agreement with Metizoft on maintenance and quality assurance of the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM).
