Robert Jumonville, former Port of New Orleans Cruise and Tourism Director and René Trépanier, Director of Cruise the Saint Lawrence, received the 2015 American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Cruise Awards yesterday during the AAPA biennial Cruise Seminar in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The AAPA cited Jumonville as being the vision behind the phenomenal growth of the Port of New Orleans’ cruise passenger business and its terminal and cruise-related visitor assets.
Suarez Named VP at Voith Turbo
Javier Suarez will be Voith Turbo’s new vice president Americas for the power, oil and gas division’s marine group. Suarez will be based at the division’s regional headquarters in Houston, working with Ron Wilson, who is President Americas. Suarez will also be a member of the global Voith Marine management team. Essex-based shipbuilder CTruk received a £1 million ($1.5 million) grant for the construction of an Advanced Composite Technology Centre from the UK Government's Regional Growth Fund, the office of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg announced today. A pair of newly-built workboats, 26' mooring boats Chbika and Naila, were built to operate in Tangier, Morocco, but were unable to maneuver as required, having particular difficulty running at slow speeds with their original transmissions and ended up failing sea trials. Damen Shipyards Group has delivered the first vessel in its new ASD Tug 2913 class. According to Damen, the 2913 has been developed in response to demand from operators for more powerful tugs capable of handling today’s larger vessels. As well as having a bollard pull of 80 metric tons and total power of 5,050 BKw, the new tug is 29 meters in length and highly maneuverable, making it suited for operations in busy harbors where space is limited.
