Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit announced it has delivered the world’s first LNG-powered cement tanker, MV Greenland. The delivery was preceded by an extensive program of trials and tests in which the proper working and safety of all systems was verified. KVH Industries, Inc. expanded the capacity of its mini-VSAT Broadband network with two upgrades recently, supporting growing customer demand for broadband at sea. One expansion added a new satellite beam that doubled the mini-VSAT Broadband network capacity in the North Atlantic Ocean region, including Canada’s Hudson Bay. The second expansion added a new beam across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to add 30 percent more capacity across areas such as the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
Bollinger Delivers USCG’s 16th FRC
Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the newly built Fast Response Cutter (FRC) Winslow Griesser for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) seventh district in Puerto Rico. The USCG took delivery on December 23, 2015 in Key West, Fla., and is scheduled to commission the vessel in Puerto Rico during March, 2016. The 154-foot patrol craft Winslow Griesser is the 16th vessel in the USCG’s Sentinel-class FRC program.

Graywater – which comes from ship accommodation areas (shower/sink), laundry, galley and food pulper – can contain classical pollutants such as nonylphenols, metals, nutrients, surfactants, pathogens, oil, grease, detergent and soap residue. Graywater is sometimes mixed with sewage, depending on the ship design.

Norwegian Research Ship Launched at Gondan
Gondan Shipyard in Figueras today launched a new fishery and oceanographic research vessel to be operated by the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research of Bergen under a program led by NORAD, FAO and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The contract for the construction of this oceanographic vessel was signed in March last year and was awarded to Gondan Shipyard through an international tender, in which it competed with eight shipyards in Norway and one in Spain.
