Fisherman Medevaced Off US West Coast
A fisherman who had reportedly lost consciousness and was suffering from chest pain was medevaced by a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) helicopter crew 30 miles west of Crescent City, California, Tuesday. Statoil Completes Gudrun Leak Investigation
A condensate leak occurred on the Gudrun platform in the North Sea on February 18, 2015. The incident has been investigated by Statoil’s corporate investigation team which classifies it to be of the highest degree of seriousness. On the morning of February 18, noise and vibrations were reported on Gudrun, and shortly afterwards hydrocarbons were confirmed in the process module. There was a 2 mm wide crack extending approximately 90 percent across the circumference of a two-inch pipeline.
Fire Aboard Fugro Vessel
Fugro confirmed there was a fire onboard its ROV support vessel Fugro Symphony around 2:30 a.m. this morning. The 2011-built vessel was docked at Peterhead Harbor in the U.K. at the time of the incident. SC Ports Box Volumes Up Nearly 15%
South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) informs it has handled nearly 15 percent more pier containers fiscal year to date than the same period last year, with total box volume through April climbing to nearly 900,000 containers. SCPA handled 96,166 pier containers in April, compared to 86,505 boxes moved during the same month last year. The port plans to handle more than 1 million containers by the completion of its fiscal year on June 30.
Dolphin die-off Spurred by BP Oil Spill
A record dolphin die-off in the northern Gulf of Mexico was caused by the largest oil spill in U.S. history, researchers said on Wednesday, citing a new study that found many of the dolphins died with rare lesions linked to petroleum exposure. Scientists said the study of dead dolphins tissue rounded out the research into a spike of dolphin deaths in the region affected by BP Plc's oil spill that was caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion.
Seattle, Tacoma Container Volumes Stable in April
Puget Sound container volumes stabilized in April, growing 1 percent year to date to 1,106,384 TEUs. The moderate volumes reflect the return of normal operations at the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, as the ports finished clearing the backlog of cargo that built up during contract negotiations between the West Coast labor union and employers. Containerized exports grew 3 percent year to date to 394,118 TEUs, while imports improved 1 percent to 456,068 TEUs.
KSA Donates $50,000 to World Maritime University
Yesterday in Malmö, Sweden, the Korean Shipowners’ Association (KSA) made a donation of $50,000 to the World Maritime University. The donation was handed over by KSA chairman, Youn-jae Lee, at a ceremony attended by Cleopatra Doumibia-Henry (president designate of WMU) and Neil Bellefontaine (current president). WMU moved into Malmö city earlier this month and KSA’s donation will be used to furbish the university’s cafeteria which has now been named KSA Hall.
USACE Soo Lock Bulkheads Delivered
Moran Iron Works, Inc. (MIW) was contracted to fabricate, galvanize and deliver two bulkheads for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Detroit District for installation in the Soo Lock Complex located in Sault Sainte Marine, Michigan. The bulkheads are used when dewatering the locks to enable a safe work environment for maintenance and repairs to be performed during the annual lock closure each winter.

Marsh to Take Over as Lloyd’s Register CEO
Alastair Marsh, current CFO at the Lloyd’s Register Group Ltd. (LR), has been appointed as the successor to CEO Richard Sadler who has decided to step down at the end of 2015. Sadler will pass the CEO role to Marsh on October 1, 2015 and commence a formal handover period until the end of December 2015. Simon Nice, currently Group FP&A Director, will take up the role of Interim Group Financial Director during the transition.

LPG Coaster Shipping Market to Remain Weak in 2015
The LPG coaster shipping market continues to be plagued by excess vessel supply with rates remaining stubbornly below pre-financial crisis levels, according to the latest edition of the LPG Forecaster, published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. “Average 12-month LPG coaster time charter rates fell almost 15% between 2007 and 2014”, said Shresth Sharma, senior analyst, gas shipping at Drewry.
