Evergreen Marine Corp, Taiwan's largest container shipping company, plans to charter seven new vessels with capacity of 14,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) to upgrade its fleet at lower unit costs, while disposing of smaller and older vessels, reports the Taipei Times, . Search Begins for Crewman Missing from Indian Tanker
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a an Indian crewman, Ram Mohan Singh, 25, reported missing from a tanker vessel anchored five miles south of Southwest Pass, Tuesday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the 598-foot Rainbow Quest that Singh was missing after an 8 a.m. muster. The Hong Kong-flagged ship conducted sweeps of the vessel with negative results; no life jackets were reported missing.

Port of Redwood City Reports Tonnage Boost
Coming off of a strong second quarter for cargo tonnage, the Port of Redwood City's tonnage for all commodities in the first half of fiscal year 2013/2014 reached 829,681 metric tons, an increase of 24 percent over the same period last year. Imported sand and aggregates from British Columbia accounted for 642,480 MT, more than 77% of the tonnage for the first half of the fiscal year. This was nearly a 45% increase in the amount from the same period last fiscal year.
