Burger Boat Delivers R/V Arcticus
Burger Boat Company delivered the R/V Arcticus, a 78-foot research vessel for the United States Geological Survey (USGS), on Friday, October 17, 2014. The Arcticus replaces the 38-year-old R/V Grayling and brings the USGS Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC) large vessel fleet up-to-date. The Arcticus will be stationed at the USGS base in Cheboygan, Michigan and incorporates modern marine standards and state-of-the-art technology to more safely and effectively conduct fisheries research.

Wallem Adds Three Ship Simulators in Ukraine
The Wallem Maritime Training Center in Odessa, Ukraine added three training simulators: bridge simulator (Transas NT-PRO 5000 5.25), engine room simulator (Transas Techsim 5000 8.3) and liquid cargo handling simulator (Transas LCHS 5000). The equipment will be used to simultaneously train deck and engine officers in handling all types of vessels including tankers, container and bulk carriers and car carriers.

Great Lakes Shipyard to Build Two Tugs for NYPA
The Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland, Ohio, has been contracted by New York Power Authority (NYPA) to build and deliver two new tugboats for the Niagara Power Plant’s winter operations in Buffalo, N.Y. The new tugs will augment and replace aging vessels that are used for the installation, removal and maintenance of the Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom and various associated marine construction projects.
