USCG, NOAA Ink Fleet Plan Agreement
Senior leaders from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) signed a Fleet Plan and Officer Exchange memorandum of understanding Wednesday at a ceremony at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters. Coast Guard Vice Adm. Charles Michel, deputy commandant for operations, and NOAA Vice Adm. Michael Devany, deputy under secretary for operations, were the signing officials for the joint letter of promulgation.
Allee to Lead Cruise and Tourism at Port of New Orleans
Port industry veteran Don Allee will assume control of the Port’s Cruise and Tourism Division in January, following the retirement of current Director J. Robert Jumonville. Jumonville, who will retire in January after 25 years at the Port, oversaw the planning and construction of all three Julia St. Cruise Terminals, including the present consolidation of the two terminals into one modern terminal completed in 2011.
Damen Delivers 2nd ASD Tug to ARC Towage
The second of four Damen ASD Tugs 2810 for ARC Towage (Spain) has left for Trinidad. There, the Guapo Warrior will join the fleet of Joint Venture company ARC Towage, which will provide the gas terminal berthing services for a significant energy industry player in Trinidad and Tobago. The tugs have been and are being built at Damen Shipyards Galati (Romania) and will be delivered by Damen Services teams in Trinidad and Tobago before January 1, 2015.

UK Aircraft Carrier’s Center Blocks Completed
Cammell Laird has completed its first center blocks for a second aircraft carrier set to become the centerpiece of Britain’s military capability. The Birkenhead marine and engineering services company has fabricated and outfitted two blocks for the new Prince of Wales aircraft carrier, which are now being transported by sea to the Rosyth shipyard in Scotland. Construction of the blocks began in July 2013 and has involved a workforce of 250 including contractors.
Tamtron Develops New Shackle Dynamometer
Tamtron Group announced it has joined with selected customers to develop a device for measuring tension or pulling forces. This shackle dynamometer, also known as a shackle load cell, is suited for field tests due to its light structure that has been achieved by replacing the pin of the shackle with an axle load cell, the developer said. The shackle dynamometer has typically been used for calibrating the winches on ships and for measuring the pulling forces of construction machines.
